Keep quilts in view

MANY congratulations to everyone involved in Quilt City and the wonderful Quilt Trail 2012, the makers, organisers, retailers, museums and galleries who have willingly displayed them.

This is a superb and very visual way of celebrating York 800.

Two months is too short a time for them to be available to the public – citizens and visitors. It took us a whole day of very dedicated quilt viewing to see all 31 pieces of stunning stitching and quilting magic.

In terms of York and its history, this collection is the equivalent of the Leeds, Bayeux and Quaker tapestries – all on permanent display.

The York 800 quilts should be purchased for the city as a visual reminder of such an historic anniversary.

Surely a home could be found for them at the Art Gallery, Castle Museum, York Explore, Quilt Museum, The Guildhall or St Mary’s, Castlegate, and hopefully not returned to their makers and lost to the city forever.
