I WAS surprised to learn of the extra charges made on ticket sales at York Opera House (telephone bookings each ticket £3.90, transaction once £4 only).

I recently attended Singin’ In The Rain and decided to travel to York to avoid paying the excessive telephone charges.

At the box office I was charged £1.90 on each ticket for using my debit card.

The total for one ticket therefore could have cost me £9.80 plus the actual ticket price. I question whether or not the Opera House would want people to attend at these charges.

In comparison, I have recently booked for Starlight Express at Hull New Theatre with no extra charges even for debit cards.
