Beans good for us

I SMILE every time I see the Bile Bean sign on Lord Mayor’s Walk (The Press, September 27).

The reference to bile has echoes of Victorian medicine, whereas the prospect of being kept slim as well as healthy and bright-eyed has a contemporary touch.

It is quirky features such as this, the gloriously restored clock on Coney Street and Minerva with her owl at the junction of Minster Gates with High Petergate, which make our city so distinctive and interesting, to the benefit of both visitors and residents.

I hope others will join me in emailing mark.stead@thepress.co.uk to offer contributions to the £1,600 restoration appeal.

The Bile Beans sign also appears - very briefly - in an early shot in the new film "Lawless"; albeit on a building in a small Virginia town. I hadn't realized it was an international concern.

Shia LeBeouf certainly is developing into a fine actor.

Plus he's spent several nights in Megan's Fox hole.
