Counting the cost

I SEE that York councillors are in line for a hike in their pay (The Press, August 13) and quite good rises are recommended.

I hope that the councillors will forgo some, if not all, of these rises and take into account the present climate of pay awards for ordinary people – very little or none – and the current state of the council’s financial position when making a decision whether nor not to accept the rise in their allowances.
