New date for dads

IF Father’s Day didn’t exist, Ron Willis’s heartfelt letter (The Press September 20) would have been enough to establish it on that day, and without the ghastly commercialism that surrounds the official date.

Mothering Sunday was established to honour a real mother, and represents real sentiment.

As Ron Willis is clearly a real father expressing real sentiment, perhaps York might shame the commercial world by adopting September 20 as York Father’s Day.

Whether Mrs Willis has the face to launch ships, I know not. But she certainly has a dad to be proud of.
