MR BOWKER’S letter (a lost childhood) brought back many memories of my days (long gone) as a “Sunbeam”.
We paid 6d (21/2p) a week and were taught tap and ballet.
We would go to villages and give concerts for charity in costumes (grass skirts, tutus, etc) made by our mothers, and the teacher herself would do a dance tap on her toes.
After the show we would be given a tasty supper and be taken home tired and happy.
Early 1930s, innocent childhood pleasures; happy memories!
