Enforce the roads rules

I AM delighted to read in your pages that the council plans to “stop routes around the city becoming choked by cars” and to increase pedestrianisation (The Press, September 19).

I hope fervently that the council intends to enforce its decisions in this respect, something which has been woefully lacking in the past.

It would be far better to enforce the pedestrianisation already in place than to increase its scope and do little or nothing to ensure that it is reality rather than fantasy.

As I've moaned here before, the council chose not to apply for available powers to cover moving traffic offences in footstreets, leaving it to the police. And we all know how interested they are - understandably, given the disorder they have to contend with due to lax licensing.
