Building little empires

IF THERE is one thing that unites all politicians, local and national, it is the subject of their salaries and expenses.

Their feudal in-fighting is suspended as they merge with that “ker-chink” in their eyes in anticipation of the pay panel’s recommendation being accepted, with far too generous allowances and expenses, and have forgotten that it should be an honour to serve the people, with no thought of personal reward.

Since full-time councillors have been allowed, they have had ideas above their station, such as calling the leaders a “cabinet”. How they love their little empires.

Geoff Robb, Hunters Close, Dunnington .

What does the absence of any comments from York councillors, to the effect that they will refuse any increase, tell us ?
