Electric fag ends
11:32am Thursday 20th September 2012 in Letters By Reader's letter
MY AMBITION these past few years, doubtless like innumerable others, has been to give up smoking tobacco, and I’ve found the perfect answer: the electronic cigarette.
It’s enabled me to sort out my lung problems and cut back on my expenditure.
I don’t, however, know what to do with the used electric cigarette batteries and empty nicotine cartomisers.
According to the packaging instructions they cannot be disposed of at local recycling facilities. But I don’t want my used e-cigs to end up in landfill which harms the environment.
Can someone please suggest what course of action I can take?
Aled Jones, Mount Crescent, Bridlington.

omisers for when the worst happens. And at least you can make your own e-liquid and save even more money.
They really do help giving up smoking. I managed a whole week in the summer when I was away from an electricity source to charge mine. I think I'll totally give up soon. Nicotine replacement in the form of gum/lozenges/patches never seemed to work for me.

A better answer would be to switch to an electronic cigarette that has a bigger battery that will not wear out as quickly. All lithium polymer re-chargeable batteries will wear out after about 250-300 charge cycles, so a small e-cig battery that gets recharged 2 or 3 times a day will not last very long before it needs to be replaced.
If you have a 650-900mah eGo style battery for your e-cig then one charge will pretty much last you through a whole day.
If you used something like a Vision Clearomiser instead of a cartomiser, the new versions come with replaceable heads which will cut down on waste considerably
Did you know that you can re-fill your cartomiser with liquid ? that will cut down waste as well.
A good source of info for a new e-cig user is the UKVapers forum at
www.ukvapers.org
If you go to the 'new users' section then you will get lots of helpful advice for any question that you have.
It is called 'vaping' rather than 'smoking' because you are inhaling vapour instead of smoke, and this causes significantly less harm to your body.
Glad you are feeling better for swapping to e-cigs.
