In The Press of September 12, it states that the Monday market is to return home.
Coun Crisp says that “York’s markets are a fantastic way for people to start their own business”. So why did the council some years ago shove the market into a back street out of sight and out of mind to the benefits of foreign traders and fun fairs?
May I also remind Coun Crisp that the market’s traditional home is in Parliament Street?
Darren Lovett, the council’s senior market officer, then makes the situation worse by saying that “the traders have capitalised by working in Parliament Street”, which emphasises the injustice of the move in the first place.
