It’s parked in the drive
10:32am Wednesday 19th September 2012 in Letters By Reader's letter
MAY I inform Robin Rigby (Letters, September 14) that I do not and never have parked my car half-way on the pavement? Furthermore, visitors are instructed to park in the drive as my car will be in the garage.
In the unlikely event of Paul Hepworth visiting me, he will be welcome to lean his bike against the wall.
Mike Usherwood, Mendip Close, Huntington , York.

If the day ever dawns when I have to use a wheelchair, I'll be finding a way to, ahem, inconvenience such pig-ignorant motorists who block my path.

It's a question of common sense and consideration.

If the pavement is wide enough that you can park partly on it without impeding people with double buggies or wheelchairs, what's the problem? It isn't illegal and if it helps traffic flow without causing anyone else any difficulties then it's fine.

I agree also - damage to footpaths and verges by cars is a major problem for which the culprits should be sent the repair bill.
No - it's not fine to park on the footpath and, in my experience, it's most commonly done by people who's longest walk is generally from the front door to the car and don't have any idea of what it's like to walk along the pavement.
Pavements are for people - simples!
