Tidy up here first

WHILE it is great the riverside area near Guildhall might receive a makeover, I hadn’t realised there was much wrong with it.

On the other hand, there is still the sadly neglected area on the other side of the river from the old Argos store down to the riverside gardens. I wrote about this earlier in the year and also wrote to two councillors, but there has been no improvement whatsoever.

The disgusting stains, smells and graffiti are all still there; the nettles are now knee-high. Litter and dog-dirt are also seen. This ‘riverside walk’ is used by tourists as well as residents, who all deserve better.

It’s no use spending money on certain areas and ignoring the rest. We’d be better bringing everywhere up to a minimum standard before pouring money into high-profile schemes which are not essential.

If any councillor would care to comment on this, I’d be very pleased to hear what they have to say.
