How very insulting
10:28am Wednesday 19th September 2012 in Letters By Reader's letter
THERE can rarely been a sicker gesture of dissent than the selling of anti-Thatcher T-shirts at the TUC congress last week.
Mrs Thatcher levelled the playing fields between the unions and the electorate and is still hated for it. She asked that everyone who benefited from local services made a direct contribution through the community charge, which resulted in revolt.
We are in a worse situation now because of the mess Labour left us in and this situation is going to take years to put right. It was despicable for these T-shirts to be sold. For God’s sake, show some respect for the Iron Lady.
Tom Mitchell, Mendip Close, Huntington , York.

There'll be dancing in the streets sometime soon.
Thatcher didn't level any playing fields, other than the ones that got sold off at knock-down prices to her property developer friends.
Mr Mitchell talks about the electorate and unions as though they were different things - perhaps he doesn't realise that with six million members they are the biggest organisations in this country.
As for showing Thatcher "respect" you have to be kidding.
She and her successor Cameron are vicious and brutal in their hatred of theworking class, and we are justified in being equally strong in our response.

We are still suffering from Thatcher fallout all these years later, stuff that she did just can`t be undone - like selling off all our utilities and privatising everything possible, therefore making life easier for the well off.
She may be old and not in good health now but I still think she was wicked. That said, I will not be buying the T-shirt.

Still, at least they're just insulting some old lady and continuing to be parasites, and not causing death and suffering in the millions.
Soft socialism is much preferable to hard socialism.

She introduced the privatisation of utilities and the creation of water as a commodity.
The UK water privatisation has been copied around the world and now more people than ever do not have access to cheap clean safe water when they used to when it was nationalised, in particular South America.
From Thatcher’s ground breaking policies further developments have occurred that are worrying.
In 11 of the 52 states of the USA rainwater falling from the sky and collected on anybody’s property are now the property of the water company – even a water butt to water your garden!
They want you to use the tap which is metered!
Some people have been arrested at gun point over this and their land confiscated and then sold; such is the draconian power of the law now to protect profits of the water companies.
I understand that the NUM have planned and will undertake action/demonstration
s/PR stunts etc. at her planned state funeral.
The sooner it happens the better!
I would suggest that the ‘Iron Lady’ is an old rusty shell of her former self….. good!
