What a mess!

The overflowing bin at Lendal Bridge The overflowing bin at Lendal Bridge

FOLLOWING letters in The Press about rubbish, our experience is relevant. There was an over-flowing small litter bin at Lendal Bridge, the one near the trip boat mooring, toilets, etc.

We were moored there on August 10/11 and so disgusted was my wife that she took a photo. Is this the same council which greatly attenuated the bin stock in the streets?

On the Norfolk Broads a compound for bins is provided and recycling encouraged.

Our daughter in Texas, USA, saw our boat on Facebook following someone from Texas taking a photo from Lendal Bridge; we were in the final space before the boat-water mooring. I hope worldwide attention to your York poor bin provision is noted.

No !.... you must have set that up.

Our friend Russell Stone would disagree, as it does not match the general appearance of our City.

I refer to my earlier quoted correspondence on Monday.

Thank you for your enquiry below, however the description you paint of York does not match the general appearance of our city as seen, obviously there are times when standards do slip below those we expect to see, but we aim to rectify these as soon as we can.

We employ approx 30 staff on various forms of street cleansing work, who work 365 days a year giving a service between 05.00 and 21.00, these staff take a great pride in their work in order to present the city at its best for residents and visitors alike.

I would be most grateful to receive your comments in future in order that we may look to improve our service and focus our ever decreasing resources.

Yours sincerely

Russell - given your response I'll try again, but several years ago I gave up reporting the state of this site due to lack of action. It's regularly overflowing at the start of bank holidays, so imagine by a Tuesday morning!

Also, that stretch, with all the benches, could do with a couple more bins.
