Thanks for great care

ON TUESDAY of last week, I was admitted to York Hospital , where I spent two days connected by a mass of wires to two rather frightening machines.

On the Wednesday, which happened to be my 91st birthday, I was fitted with a heart pacemaker and the next day returned home.

Through the letters page, may I thank the paramedics who answered my 999 call so efficiently and the staff of the coronary unit who looked after me so well.

I would like, particularly, to say a very big thank you to the staff of the coronary care ward. As I said to their staff nurse, it was almost worth being ill to meet such delightful, cheerful and charming people. They even gave me a birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday.
