Tractor powered

LAST Sunday, my wife and visited Sledmere House to watch a nostalgic working display of farm tractors and machinery, including three combine harvesters and a very old thrashing machine.

The weather was perfect, hot with a cooling breeze, blue sky and dry underfoot. The event was well signposted, well laid out, with interesting stalls, food, drink and ice cream sellers and friendly guides and volunteers.

It was great to see so many old vintage tractors that I used to sell new and used during my long career as a machinery sales representative, firstly for Ford and then Massey-Ferguson, and IHC- Case. Many of these tractors and ploughs were in mint restored working condition, as were the Massey-Ferguson combines.

There was no entrance fee but donations could be given towards the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution. The crowds were large so I hope a lot was raised for these two excellent causes.

Later, we drove to Bridlington for a paddle, a stroll on the sands and fish and chips. The whole day showed Yorkshire at her very best.
