The pride of York High

I would like to write to add my support to Macaulay and Courtney Catterson who will be representing our city and Great Britain at the World Kick Boxing Championships in Slovakia this week.

I write as the headteacher of York High School where Courtney is currently a pupil, as was Macaulay before he moved on to further education, not Canon Lee School as both of your articles in The Press on September 8 indicated.

Courtney in particular has played an important role in the Sports College ethos of York High School in her role as a pupil, athlete and young leader. She has already inspired many young people with her achievements and leadership skills.

Courtney’s achievements were recognised at our prizegiving evening in June, when she received our Olympian Award from Olympic starter Alan Bell.

We therefore have special reason for wishing Courtney and Macaulay every success this week and I have little doubt that we will hear much more about their achievements in the years ahead including Rio 2012!
