Biking weekend was such fun

We were delighted that the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress joined in the fun on our try-out track at the York Festival of Cycling at the weekend.

They cycled round the track in great style on a side-by-side cycle, smiling all the way, then thanked me graciously for the experience before leaving.

Only afterwards did I realise that I had not taken the parking brake off for them, so their progress round the track was no mean athletic feat! I do apologise to them for this, and congratulate them on their dedication to duty.

May I also take this opportunity to say that we had thousands of people riding our bikes, including many children.

They all showed excellent manners, respected our bikes, and the only casualty was one grazed knee.

My congratulations, too, to the people from Intelligent Travel York for putting on this superb event.
