Greens are good for you at a local level

FORMER Labour councillor Lynn Jeffries has called for others to stand as independents with a view to ending “nonsense party politics” in York.

While I agree with her that party politics and its associated tit-for-tat bickering and point scoring has been responsible for the two of the most appalling administrations the city has had since I moved here in 1987, I feel compelled to point out that politics is not all about the triple-edged sword of incompetence that is Labour/Conservative/Lib-Dem.

The ward where I live is lucky enough to be in the hands of councillors Dave Taylor and Andy D’Agorne, who represent both the Green Party and local residents with enthusiasm and a grounded common-sense approach.

While the Green Party may not be in a position to govern nationally, there is no other party I would consider voting for at a local level. I’m sure most of the residents of Fishergate Ward would agree with me.
