Conflicting report

GOVERNMENT response to the legal action by Virgin Rail, which halted the signing of the contract for the above franchise (The Press, September 4) implied that First Group, if eventually successful in their bid, would provide more trains on the route.

This statement appears to contradict previous reports that even following the improvements carried out in the Trent Valley and elsewhere, there was little, or no spare capacity, a factor apparently supporting a case for the proposed High Speed 2 railway between the capital and the West Midlands.

What I heard was that there was so little capacity left on the line that by 2015 the line would be full.
