This is what we need

REGARDING The Press report of September 4 about the multi-million pound proposal to flatten Queen Street bridge to make way for a bus station, this is the best news I have heard of, after years of visitors to York asking where is our local bus station.

It is so embarrassing to say we do not have this facility in our city.

We need to update to keep up with other towns such as Leeds and Harrogate, who have wonderful interchanges for bus passengers to use.

Several million pounds will be a small price to pay for being able to give directions to tourists.
They could call it the James Alexander Bus Emporium.

I have lived in York for my entire 37 year history, and have been asked lots of questions by lots of tourists, but not once have I been asked where the bus station is, and embarrassingly had to say that we don't have one.

NoNews: I've been asked. Wetherby, Knaresborough and Harrogate all have bus stations; until a few years ago Doncaster had two!

Plans to build a bus station is the best news you've ever heard?

Okay.

An integrated transport system with a bus station alongside the rail station is obviously a step forward.
At present it is difficult for travellers to find an onward connection on leaving the station, with some buses leaving from Rougier street, others from the Piccadilly area and yet others from the Railway station. Even locals are often perplexed. Lets hope the scheme goes ahead

I'm not saying that we don't need one, just that I have never been asked about one from tourists.
