Cycles no use here

IN response to Paul Hepworth (Letters, August 24), there is no bus service from Clifton to Holgate without going through the city, which would take even longer.

It is also impossible to safely carry a 20kg + bowls bag on a bicycle. So I am left with walking it, which I have done on several occasions, getting soaked most times.

By the time you have carried that weight for 50 minutes your arms are not fit to do anything. I will not feel guilty for using the roads a few times a week as I do pay my road tax, and I still want to know why the route has become so congested this summer, even before the roadworks.

It's not really Pedelling Paul's fault that there is a river in between Clifton and Holgate. I realise that he is, to some, the fount of all evil, but even his depravity has it's limits.

Actually though, the panniers on my bike are good for 10kg each. Would it be an option to split the bowls between two bags?

Or how about a Cycle trailer, you can fit anincredible amount into them, and you will be safe in the knowledge that your balls are trailing on the ground a couple of feet behind you......

I think the average demographic that plays bowls would have a heart attack trying to carry that much weight in a rucksack up the never-ending incline that is Clifton Bridge! Let alone the return back up Boroughbridge road.

Cycle trailer would make sense, you can get ones on ebay that can fold right flat so as to be hooked onto a garage wall for storage. If your bike goes into a low enough gear, climbing the ascent/uphill slog from landing lane to the A59 can be done evantually without too much hassle. Going the other way you just have to watch out for pedestrians who seem unable to read "CYCLES ONLY" clearly printed on the off road cycle lane.
