Just a talking shop now

IN ANSWER to Dennis Barton (Letters, August 4), I would just like to put Mr Barton’s mind at rest.

I do not expect us to do anything about President Assad; this country has neither the money nor the power to influence the situation. We can only lobby the UN to try and impose sanctions, etc.

To be fair, that is what the Government has been doing. T

he problem is that the UN is not fit for purpose when Russia and China can veto any action everyone else calls for. It has become a talking shop.

Mr R Keeler, Rainsborough Way, York.
