Oh, Pieterson's the best
8:07am Thursday 23rd August 2012 in Letters
I SEE Tony Kelly has joined the ‘Spiteful Boys Club’ in his sports column (OYB Back to SAKP, The Press, August 18) His opinion that Kevin Pieterson is not England’s best batsman is rubbish; he is by a mile, you only have to look at his stats.
I’ve been watching cricket at the grounds and now on TV, since I was 16 (lord such a long time ago), and he’s the most brilliant, exciting and prolific batsman I’ve seen, and that includes my all-time hero, Sir Ian Botham.
Okay, the texts he sent were certainly unprofessional, but what about the stupid Facebook comments ‘KP Genius’ sent by a friend of his team mates Anderson, Swan and Broad, and the rumoured spite and cold shoulder in the dressing room? A bit of jealousy there, methinks.
I do agree with Tony about footballers and their feigned injuries – some of them have medical attention if they break a fingernail. But football can go one better than Manteo Mitchell, who ran 200 metres with a broken leg. I remember Man City goalkeeper Bert Trautmann who kept playing with a broken neck.
