Let’s get regulated

Let’s get regulated I COMMEND the letter of Ruth Potter (The Press, August 18) and for the work of York Wheels Ltd in general.

However, her offer of services in the South Bank area is a sticking plaster to cover the ineptitude of First York . For people not wishing to visit the locations on offer at the times available the “Wheels” service is not an option. For example, how do the elderly/less firm get to the hospital during normal opening hours?

Residents should be aware that First Group (Plc) has no loyalty to York; it is here by merely registering a commercial service. If it is no longer commercial then it will be withdrawn; their action in Norfolk and North Devon proves this.

York needs a proper regulated service akin to what the residents of London get via Transport for London (and, incidentally, which York taxpayers help subsidise).

West Yorkshire Metro has just been given the powers to control bus and train services: why cannot York link with them and get the same result?
