Intervene early

Intervene early I WAS dismayed to read that some York businesses will be closing early to minimise race day trouble (The Press, August 10).

Based on personal observation, interventions in the evenings are too late – most of the would-be troublemakers are drunk and stroppy by noon or early afternoon (whether they be race-goers, stags or hen parties).

This is when they need to be picked up (not moved on) so that the well-behaved majority (residents and visitors alike) can enjoy the best York has to offer.
