Free insulation
5:50pm Friday 29th June 2012 in Letters By Reader's letter
THE Coalition’s green deal will offer householders or firms a loan to pay for energy-efficient work against their property at a six per cent interest rate.
How many people are expected to take this up in York? About three a week. It is “greenwash” and tokenism.
The moral of the story? It is best to get your free insulation now (before October/November) while it is still free. Phone the Yorkshire Energy Partnership on 01904 554406 or see yorkshireenergypartnership.org.uk/

According to who? And even if we did acquire a Mediterranean climate, you do realise it still gets cold in the Mediterranean in winter? Helping people save on energy costs is surely a good thing independently of any other debate about climate change.

Another scam and there could be more to come! For example, Labour MP Paul Flynn (Newport) suggested in Parliament that home owners should be forced to have cavity wall insulation, even though this can cause dampness. (The air gap is there for a reason) Another con is that if say you wanted to build a conservatory, you might have to buy a new boiler too! More VAT to the Treasury. Why do we need all this insulation when we are supposed to be acquiring a Mediterranean climate? The truth is that there has been no global warming this century. Our Governments have committed to inefficient and expensive renewable energy while at the same time needing ever more households to accommodate an open door immigration policy. There will not be enough energy to go round. Also I note that the cost of Prince Charles on the nation has increased. The official reason for this apparently is the increased amount of international travel. Not bad for someone preaching about the effects of our carbon footprints.

Smith 63, First we are looking at fractions of 1C, secondly the records only represent fairly recent times. Third, the data is corrupt. Why the very long delay in releasing some of the raw data? Uncorrupted springs to mind. The tree ring data from Queens University Belfast a case in point!
2010 was reported as one of the hottest years on record long before the big freeze that saw most of the world above 45 degrees North frozen solid for the last five weeks of the year. But don't let the facts on the ground get in the way. 2009 was way down on the list because the Antarctic blast that froze South America all the way to the Amazon couldn't really be erased as this occurred in July.
Actually I think the insulation is a good thing, not because of any scheduled warming but quite the opposite! BTW, Washington DC has had its hottest June day since 1934. Care to tell the world what happened in 1934?

So making people's homes more energy efficient and protecting Mother Earth from some trace organic gas isn't going to be subsidised by poor Joe F. Taxpayer any more you say? Excellent news.

I should also point out that man made CO2 in the atmosphere represents less than 16 parts per million. How catastrophic is that?
Bring on the debate!

Okay then. Explain how it's a good thing that my tax revenue is being used to lessen health risks for people.

It's not *your* tax revenue, it's *our* tax revenue.
Again, for the billionth time - tax is not a retail model for goods and services.
You don't choose how much is spent on what unless you get a job in the treasury.
Tax is tax.
I don't like it any more than the next guy but it's pay up and shut up or you make a proper stand and refuse all payment.

Words (almost) fail me! It's bad enough that anyone could even THINK that way - that they can own up to it publicly is truly terrifying.
