I WRITE after reading Colin Jeffrey’s letter of June 8, which I found distasteful.

Our Queen is loved and respected all over the world. I am sure past and present prime ministers would feel the same as me.

The Queen, like most parents, has had hard times with her children, the main and most important being Charles with Diana.

On their engagement, Charles was asked if he loved Diana. He said: “What is love?” They should have asked if he loved Camilla. I am sure he would have replied “yes”. Their affair had gone on for years. Diana became an embarrassment to the royal family, but if she had been treated right, she would never have chosen that life.

I honestly believe Charles should not be king when anything happens to the Queen. I think it should be bestowed on William. He is very sensible and royal, just how his mother would have wanted him.

I am 82 and feel the Queen has been a part of my life. Would those who speak against her sooner have a president?

• I THINK CS Jeffrey must have nothing better to do than compose controversial letters and although I don’t wish to encourage him by deigning to reply, how many 64-plus year olds myself included would welcome the chance to call their deceased mothers ‘Mummy’ or any other term of familial term of affection?
