Admiration for those who value democracy

I COULDN’T help but compare the enthusiasm of the voters in Egypt with the apathy shown by around 60 to 70 per cent of those in Britain during elections.

To see the determination of the people who queued for hours in their thousands to change the corruption and mismanagement of their system to one that may just give the people some justice in the way their country is run made me wish that Britons showed even a small proportion of that national feeling.

We are so very lucky in this country to have a respected and loved monarch, a Government who is in touch daily with the people and the total absence of the brutality and injustice that is rife in some countries.

When people cannot be bothered even to vote, I don’t believe they have any right to criticise the way Britain is run.

Personally, I feel we have the very best of all worlds and the fairest form of government, whoever is in power.

This is proved by the overwhelming number of people from other countries flocking to Britain, whether or not we can accommodate them. I would not want to live anywhere else.

Unfortunately, too many decent, hard working, honest people see our democracy as being completely out of touch with them and seeing the powerful few who control their lives greedily taking all they can get away with and contributing nothing if they can.

It has to change radically but those who live well on it will not let go.

Apathy comes from a lack of democracy within this Country.
How democratic is it when all the major parties treat the majority of citizens with disdain?
As for being in touch with it's people, no one other than me pays for my personal expenses.
The phrase "I hear what you're saying, but I'm not listening" springs to mind.
Yes I know it's our own fault for letting it get this far, but please no more love in with our governments.
