‘Ridiculous’ race move

After an enjoyable afternoon at York Races last Friday with friends we set off to walk back to the city centre.

When we got to Albemarle Road we found our usual walk back through Scarcroft Hill and Scarcroft Green blocked off by policemen and police tape.

Instead the large crowds were sent on up Albermarle Road to The Mount and then along The Mount and Blossom Street.

Albermarle Road was very busy with traffic which people had to dodge away from regularly. Crossing Scarcroft Road was also not easy given the large number of people and one person was nearly hit by a coach.

Who made this ridiculous decision to stop racegoers returning to the city through a very safe pedestrian route and instead sent them on a very dangerous route given the large numbers involved?

This needs looking in to before the even bigger crowds at the races this summer.

If there weren't so many moronic drunken Geordies and other idiots urinating, vomiting and fighting in the streets after the races then it wouldn't be necessary to take such steps. I wish York was a National Hunt track that only raced in winter. That way we might see actual lovers of the sport attending instead of the massed hordes of cretins who make life misery for York residents.

Who make life a misery for 19 days of the year? Honestly, get a life.

Having lived just off blossom street for a long time the amount of drunken idiots who think its ok to use the "safe pedestrian routes" as toilets and rubbish bins as well as the abusive language they care to use in front of young children perhaps they should of directed down the a64
