Paper chase

Could anyone at the council confirm who is responsible for the Yorwaste lorry on the outer ring road on Monday at 11am?

It had a Recycle York skip on the back full of waste paper, which was uncovered, and between the Nether Poppleton and Monks Cross roundabouts left at least 16 newspapers and many other smaller pieces strewn on the carriageway, some of which landed on motorists’ windscreens.

I am sure if hurled paper from my car like that I would be prosecuted.

T Harris, York Street, Dunnington, York.

Should have got the number plate and reported it to the police rather than the press, something then might have been done.

someone got inbetween so couldn't read full plate, and being charged for a long call bounced round Northallerton, only to be told it is not a viable use of police resources, the normal answer, is not a priority.

It`s nothing to do with the council, ring the company involved.

It is a council skip on a lorrry being paid for by the council, so their responsibility to ensure contractors are value for money and obeying the law, was council recycling paper involved.

The skips and the lorries are owned by Yorwaste, not City of York Council. They are a limited company with shareholders. Nobody at the York Council offices can answer a complaint or query about them.
How do you know they were taking paper for the council, it could have been from any office or private company?

Isn't Yorwaste owned by COYC?

Probably the fact it was a City of York skip with City of York signs on it was the giveaway, and if you give rubbish to a firm who then fly tips it, or disposes of it improperly, you are liable for not using a suitable firm, so the hirer is responsible

It's ok you can get an app for that.

They are jointly owned by COYC and NYCC (who I believe owns the majority share). The point is it is run as a private company so ringing the council offices, who have nothing at all to do with the running of this LTD. company is of no use whatsoever.
