It’s a priceless asset

BEFORE I became involved with the Burnholme Parents Group, I usually left school issues to my wife.

I already knew the school was very good through our experience with our three children. But it wasn’t until I got involved that I realised just how good this school really is.

This isn’t down to its size, Ofsted reports, location or history. It is down to the commitment, expertise and passion of the teachers and staff.

You can have a lovely big school or a shiny new one with all the mod cons in the best location in town, but unless you get the right people you will still just have a nice building.

The authority is only looking at finance, which we know they can get around if they want to. They can close the school, they can bus the kids to all the other schools and try to find employment for the teachers and staff, but they will lose this priceless group’s strength.

I sincerely hope the councillors involved in the decision-making process at the public meeting at 5.30pm today at Burnholme Social Club use all the facts to come to the right choice and keep Burnholme open.
