Link to good health
8:27am Monday 14th May 2012 in Letters By Reader's letter
IT WAS reported in The Press of May 4 that most people who live in York enjoy good health. Unfortunately, as the article highlighted, this does not apply to everyone.
It’s a shocking statistic that men living in some areas of York live, on average, ten years fewer than those in better-off areas. Residents in some parts of the city are also much more likely to die from lung cancer, heart disease and stroke.
York LINk (Local Involvement Network) is committed to helping reduce health inequalities across the city and we are looking for more volunteers to become HealthWatchers in local communities.
HealthWatchers are trained to help people get the advice and information they need to help them make healthy decisions about their lifestyle. This includes giving up smoking, taking more exercise and eating more healthily.
This is a great opportunity to make a significant difference to health and well-being in your local area.
If you would like to find out more please contact the York LINk office, Holgate Villa, 22 Holgate Road, York YO24 4AB e-mail admin@yorklink.org.uk telephone 01904 621631.
