Can anyone solve church mystery?

Can anyone solve church mystery? Can anyone solve church mystery?

I WONDER if readers might be able to help with identifying a demolished church in a photograph previously in possession off my late brother, who lived in York?

Through the central view there is a background building and tower of another church.

My reason for wishing to identify the church is purely that of curiosity; there is no writing on the reverse of the photograph.

Is it a demolished church or is it a bombed church ? It looks to me as if the tree on the left has had its leaves and branches blown off.

York's only bombed church was/is St Martin-le-Grande in Coney Street. It's authentic Perpendicular, whereas this one looks like a Victorian attempt at Decorated to me.

Surely that is the old Bishopthorpe Church, by the river. And that would be St Andrews in the distance?

This is a possibility , as the Church by the river was -- The third church of St Andrew was constructed between 1898 and 1899, but now located away from the river. The architect was C Hodgson Fowler. -- This accounts for the Victorian look . someone needs to have a look at the old Church . I have seen the ruin when i was very young . Maybe this church was burnt .
