Is this just another Clifton Green fiasco?

FOLLOWING my letter of May 1 and others on the new traffic lights on the Holgate Road/Blossom Street junction, I have taken a number of photos of all the stationary traffic.

On Wednesday at 6.30pm, the traffic stretched back as far as Holgate Bridge and beyond. In 30 years of living in Holgate Road, I have never seen anything like it. Cars were doing three-point turns to get out of the queue, and others going through the first set of traffic lights at red.

We would appear to have another Clifton Green fiasco foisted upon us for the sake of a handful of cyclists; most of these cycle on the footpath anyway.

Graham Willey, Holgate Road, York.

Mr Willey spouting absolute tosh. Queues have always gone back to Dalton Terrace & the bridge. No lanes have been removed for the evil cyclists. The signal timings are exactly the same. Merely the bottleneck has been kept clear of stationary traffic. Total lies & exaggeration again by those that would blame those on bikes for all the world's woes if they could.

And the end of his letter: "most of these cycle on the pavement anyway" is perhaps the most telling of Mr Willey's obvious prejudice...

Mr Whilley, I live literally around the corner from this junction.

The alterations have increased queues. However, I think this is purely due to the altered light timings, and nothing to do with moving the car stop line further down the road. When the car stop line was at the end of the road it wasn't uncommon for a right-turning car (waiting at the lights) to block the entry of buses turning into Holgate road from Blossom St.

So the moved stop line should benefit motor and cycle traffic alike.

I think the queues are caused by the very very long cycle on the lights. This is partly due to the need to give pedestrians longer to cross (since the pedestrian refuge has been removed).

Failtastic letter!

Well I hope you were taking registration numbers, Mr W.
If you are on a bike, apparently going through a red light is one of the most heinous and despicable crimes against humanity you can commit.
Is it different for drivers?

for the sake of a handful of cyclists; most of these cycle on the footpath anyway.

Classic!
Why stop there, though? I mean you know, if you're going to jigger up your argument like that you might as well have a bit of fun making it up.
Cos, y'know, it's time the council stopped squandering our personal savings on fellating these bomb-making crystal meth manufacturing drug-addicted immigrant prostitute serial killers.

Don't panic...there aren't any local elections pending so no prospective candidates to use this as a controversial issue to hang their hats on..!
And was it cars doing 3 point turns or their drivers?
I'm sure that PH will love the new scheme as he lives out that way. doesn't he?

You still pretending you're not Paul Hepworth? Split personality or what, you need psychiatric help!

Oh dear. Confusion reigns again. Yes PP I do live out that way and I love the new cycle lane. Brilliant! Maybe when the bus priority measures for the future A59 Park & Ride kick in, it will usefully damp down demand for peak access by private car along that "corridor" .

Clearly you are mentally unstable, and what you write should be ignored as the ravings of a lunatic.

Anyone would think they were just recycling the same letters.

Oh, wait, you wrote "peddle", not "pedal" ... is this not the pun page?

Something I will agree on here! I think The Press themselves have a slight anti-cycling agenda as anything slightly controversial regarding cyclists always gets printed, yet something from the other side of the coin gets overlooked.
