Meek in, meek out

IT almost seems nowadays that any person willing to get up and go out to work, especially for low wages, is somehow being punished. There are millions of us.

Last weekend – rain; as soon as Monday comes – sun.

A beautiful week a month ago; bank holiday brings a change for the worst.

I suppose, from an altruistic point of view, we have the pleasure of knowing we’re keeping a lot of people comfortably in their homes all day.

Mind you, you have to think you’re lucky to have a job, with all the competition. As soon as the Government got in power, they cut back on border control staff, for what they’re worth.

Never mind, we have one comfort. Isn’t there something that mentions that the meek shall inherit the earth?

Try asking Jehovah's Witnesses next time they come around, that's what they told me, but i suspect that there is more to it than just being meek. Perhaps you have to go with them and tell others, not just write to papers complainingabout the lousy weather.........thou
gh I do believe the bible tells us that God makes it rain on the sinners as well as the righteous so at least that is fair, unlike the politicians.

Brilliant, absolutly brilliant, well said.

Actually, Firedrake has omitted a line. It should read:

"The Lord maketh his rain to fall on the just and the unjust fella,
But mainly on just;
Because the unjust stole the just's umbrella!"

I wish I knew who adapted it from its Biblical origin. (Still, it's probably googlable!)

A very miserable letter with a suspect message.

It's an almost incomprehensible letter: it seems to drift randomly between a number of themes with no clear focus. In fact, it's hard either to agree or disagree with it, because it's not at all obvious what the writer is getting at.

Well, according to Wikipedia at least - Firedrake's quote originates with Charles Bowen, Lord Boween: 1835-1894.
