Bothered by boards

‘A’ boards in College Street, York ‘A’ boards in College Street, York

I TOOK this picture of College Street in York, showing advertising boards which I feel are an intrusion on our lovely historic streets.

Not only are these ‘A’ boards blatant in their advertising, they are unsightly and cause a hindrance to pedestrians using the foot streets.

Are there no by-laws to stop these obstructions littering the pavements?

"unsightly and cause a hindrance to pedestrians using the foot streets"

So do the extremely large pushchairs, at least the A-boards don't move.

Plenty of Maccy d boxes that are more unsightly, plenty of people that frequent Maccy d are even more unsightly. A boards have been around since the oldest trade started.

Terry Smith these advertising signs are illegal under the 1990 town and country planning act & the buisness owners face prosecution in court & are liable and will be fined very heavely & have to pay court costs & solicitors fees. my advice is that they are removed as soon as possible, Be Warned the city of york council will not tolerate this kind of thing !

There are many blind and partially sighted who are also at risk, who also find these obstructions both dangerous and annoying. I raised this issue last year with a shop Clifford Street whose staff appeared to think it was their right to obstruct the pavement.

If only more people knew that, and then I wouldn't have an obstacle course everytime I'm cycling my way to the train station!
