Telling it like it is

THE council’s highways development manager is to be commended for telling it like it is on the Community Stadium proposal (The Press, April 27).

So often in the past when there is a planning application in which the council has a vested interest, planning and other officials mysteriously raise no objections; even when it is patently obvious that the proposal would be thrown out if submitted by entirely independent private enterprise. There has been a tendency for officers to acquiesce to the wishes of their political masters in applications where councillors wish to ignore their own policies because it suits them; so it is refreshing to see in this case highway officers are standing their ground.
