Telling it like it is

THE council’s highways development manager is to be commended for telling it like it is on the Community Stadium proposal (The Press, April 27).

So often in the past when there is a planning application in which the council has a vested interest, planning and other officials mysteriously raise no objections; even when it is patently obvious that the proposal would be thrown out if submitted by entirely independent private enterprise. There has been a tendency for officers to acquiesce to the wishes of their political masters in applications where councillors wish to ignore their own policies because it suits them; so it is refreshing to see in this case highway officers are standing their ground.

It's a shame that a few more worms don't turn, against their masters at the council. I think this may be the beginning of a revolt against the politicised culture that pervades the ranks of council officers, who work with their left-wing masters to the detriment of the city. The affordable housing policy being a classic example of this.

If, against all common sense, the Monks Cross development goes ahead then a flyover will be needed over the Huntington/A64 roundabout to take traffic straight over to feed onto the A64 south towards Leeds. That would be the very minimum required.
