What about gridlock?

MONKS Cross – quarts and pint pots?

The report from the council’s transport officers has confirmed what was apparent all along – that the additional traffic generated by a vast increase in retail at Monk’s Cross, plus a football stadium, simply cannot be accommodated on existing roads. No amount of talking will change this.

Ann Petherick, Scarcroft Hill, York.

Ann Petherick, who has now had three letters published criticising various aspects of the Monks Cross development. Do you get the impression she doesn't want it to go ahead??

A more important question is, why didn't the council identify this issue a lot earlier ?

well, there is one simple fix. Build a better road structure to accomodate.

This letter writer speaks as though we did not already have a professional sport stadium which contributed to traffic. We actually have two at the moment.
Also, as Joey touches on above, are we to say right that's it then, nothing more is built in York because Ann has decided she has everything she wants and the roads are full up?

Actually Ann, i have found that the roads around York afford us much more time to talk - in the car

Wait till you have all these electric taxis out of juice, waiting to be recovered. That should add a bit to the grid lock!

Well said, and straight from the University of the bleedin'obvious... The main problem, as it is with a lot of central York's traffic congestion, congestion along Holgate and along Water End, is the A1237 being well over capacity for most of the day. In fact, the A1237 was at capacity not very long at all after it was built, yet in th decades that have followed no real improvements have been made to tackle the key probelm of this road: at-grade junctions. For the effectiveness it does in the long term, those who decide to make the roundabouts bigger might as well be **** into a hurricane.
