Tescos too big already

I WAS interested to read of Tesco’s intention to spend £1 billion on expanding its already enormous empire.

I wondered why such concerns, which are already taking an over-large share of profits from the public, need to grow even bigger.

At a time when everybody is watching the pennies and spending less overall, why should these giants expect to keep adding to their profits, with so many smaller businesses having to close down?

It would be better, surely, if Tesco spent some of its billions in paying just that little bit more to some of its suppliers, many of whom lost small, family-run businesses (such as dairy farmers) because their returns were cut to the bone by concerns such as the big supermarkets.

Or am I asking for the moon? Heather Causnett, Escrick Park Gardens, Escrick, York.
