  • "Let's hope that Bill Woolley's replacement does a better job than he did. He is leaving a sinking ship. Having being behind so many bungled strategies;
    1. The disasterous affordable housing policy that has killed housebuilding and caused irreparable damage to York's economy.
    2. Spending £5million on the botched aborted Hungate office location.
    3. Spending £43million on the new palatial council offices that are bigger than they need.
    4. Selling hos Oakgate mates a planning permission for £14.85m, and using it to bail out a private company - YCFC.
    5. Making a botch of the Core Strategy that has been slated by the planning inspector.
    6. Sanctioning hundreds of thousands in consultancy fees, whilst his overpaid 'city strategy' staff formulate damaging policies.

    Now announcing his retirement, at 60 (hard done by public sector worker my a*se), before the sh*t hits the fan ?

    Good riddance to 'Bungling Bill' ,"

Consultants too costly

WHEN will council officials stop hiding behind the advice of expensive outside consultants (The Press, March 12)?

They are admitting they are not up to doing the jobs they are handsomely paid to do. Statements such as, “We need to supplement our in-house capacity to communicate progress” and we need to “utilise external expertise with value for money in mind” are straight from the book of public-service gobbledygook.

These words from one of the council’s directors are prime examples of the mind-set of public officials who are not in the real world because of their indulged positions.

Not to worry, there is the inexhaustible supply of taxpayers’ money to fund their whims.
