Expose fine building

GOODBYE soon, apparently, to the Splash Palace, that sad, relatively modern architectural eyesore.

Why risk replacing it with anything at all, or with something perhaps equally unsuitable? A tree or two would be by far a happier solution.

Even better might be to leave the ensuing space quite open – thus exposing once more what I believe to be a beautiful example of the famous ‘Euston Road’ period of Victorian architecture, presently obscured.

I mean the lovely red-brick building of Barclays Bank and hopefully seeing this completely revealed – and accepted as a treasured contribution to York’s continuing historical heritage, begun long ago in ancient Roman times.

Laurie Burt, Marygate, York.

I don't know why it was built in the first place what a waste of rate payers money.
Laurie Burt, are you any relation to a Mr Burt that was Curate at St Olaves Church many years ago. Just a long shot, I would love to know what happened to him.
