THE headline “Call to axe OAP free bus travel” (The Press, February 21) would represent a blow to senior citizens.
Many pensioners would find it acceptable to pay perhaps 50 pence with the pass for each journey, but to lose the concession all together is too drastic.
What about as the train travel pass? You pay £28 for this. Could we not include these changes and charge this way so everybody contributes towards services but pensions still got a percentage off?
If you call in at the City of York Council offices in St Leonard’s Place you can receive the same travel pass for £23, a little cheaper than at the station.
Come on, Government – let’s at least pay something but not to take all the concession away from our older citizens.
