Cheek of a thief

THANKS to the bike thief who stole my bike that was locked to the cycle rack outside of St William’s College on February 6.

The following Monday, I walked into town for my daily pint at the Cross Keys, Goodramgate. Looking out of the window, I nearly spluttered my pint down in one go as I was staring at my bike. It was parked alongside the cycle racks.

I thought my old brain was playing tricks again, thinking I had locked it in the wrong place.

Alas, when inspecting my bike, I found it unlocked and badly damaged and dumped back near to where I had left it. Well, thanks again bike thief – I’d had my bike for many years and it was dear to me, having travelled many adventurous miles.

The quote for repairs was more than £100. As a pensioner, no way was this possible to afford.

Just one thing, bike thief: why did you bring it back and dump it near where it was stolen?

Was it a twist of conscience? I doubt it.

D James, Huntington Road, York.
