Ask for salt with it

I SYMPATHISE with B Horsley whose road wasn’t gritted during the recent snow and freezing weather, and I hope a volunteer snow warden clears the Raven Grove pavements next time (Letters, February 20).

I’m on a low income too and cannot afford to buy salt for the pavements. I took grit-salt from a roadside bin, refilled by the council, and used that. When I mentioned this to the council, I received four recycling boxes full of grit-salt.

May I suggest that B Horsley contacts the council about getting a salt bin reinstated, or talks to their elected ward councillor about their concerns. And come on, Raven Grovers – can’t one of you do a little bit of voluntary community work and clear the snow when it next comes? If you do the snow-warden training, you’ll get a free shovel, hat and Hi-Vis jacket.

All householders who reasonably can, should get out and clear snow. Remember when Homer Simpson was elected as garbage supremo, on the slogan "Whose problem? SOMEONE ELSE'S" - and the outcome?
