Much in common

THE recent hook-up between the councils of York and Blackpool may seem an odd mismatch, but they do have much in common.

Both places have an iconic structure dominating their skyline; both are heavily dependant on visitors and both have donkeys.

Matthew Laverack, Lord Mayor’s Walk, York.

Apart from self-publicity, what is the point of this letter?

Matthew had intended to include a joke but City of York Councils insistence on a 50% affordable jokes ratio meant providing any level of humour was no longer viable for a small local comedian.

Oh wow, well lol, rofl, pmsl and lmao all rolled into one.

Newsflash to the Edinburgh fringe: You have to update your material! Calling people names framed with a story from last year is the new funny.

We did have an event in town with actual donkeys.
Maybe your man could have been a little bolder and called someone donkey outright, the "joke" might have worked then.

Is that a false address?

Matthew, are you infering that your lodge has donkeys?

Mr Crabtree says...

By way of explanation, the Bernard Manning comparison is based on Bernard's bad jokes and JA's bad policies !

If you have to explain a joke, then it's not funny.

I am not Matthew Laverack and neither is my donkey.
I am reliably informed that all letters sent by Matthew Laverack to York Press contain his official UK address and telephone number together with his current overseas address. The editor decides which address to publish.
Anyone accusing Mr Laverack of acting improperly or providing false addresses in correspondence to the press need to be aware that their comments are slanderous.
No donkeys were harmed in the posting of this blog.

Correction to my last post;
delete 'slanderous' and replace this with 'libellous'.

Buzz Light-year says...

Yeah whatever. Libellous. Get over yourself.
Lot of effort you put in to defending someone who isn't you. Anyone would think you were Mrs. L.
Pretty sure it needs to be a statement or assertion and not a question to be libel.

Wouldn't libel be something more like oh I dunno, calling councillors donkeys?
