Council tip plan is a load of rubbish

WHAT a load of rubbish. Does City of York Council really believe that closing Beckfield Lane tip will save £130,000? If so they should try living in the real world!

All they will do is increase fly-tipping and create a much greater expense cleaning up the mess that they have generated.

I suggest James Alexander should visit Beckfield Lane and see how well this site is used by responsible people.

However, I feel the real reason is the desire to sell the land for building.

If that is the case, find another suitable site on the west side of the city.

Ken Thorpe, Ebor Way, Poppleton, York.

Alexander lives in his own world. Save £130,000 then the population spends more than that amount in driving into Foss Islands. If we don't transport our own rubbish due in part to fortnightly collections, where else do we take it? Let's not even discuss the environment or the congestion the idiot is telling us he is commited to reduce. Who voted this man and his advisors into power? Come on admit it.

Am not a fan of JA, but is anyone seriously saying the other incumbents would be better?

We realy do need the Backfield lane site, what else have we got, cleaning up after fly-tippers is also quite expensive, I am told.

Yes I'm saying that JA is a disaster. How about the coach park sale for less than 1/3 of it's value? Happy we got that stopped even though he wouldn't let go until he really had to. How does he reconcile the cost to the environment/congesti
on/fly tipping by closing it? Maybe he is going to sell it cheap to someone he knows. The dean of the college of St John?

Not suprised its closing.Residents around the beckfield lane skip have complained about the amount of noise early on a weekend for years and also the fact a tip site is situated in a residential area.
CYC waste stratergy dept dont seem to have much about them.
They brought in the permit scheme in feb 2009 to cut down on the trade waste been tipped illegally, However they then issued dozens of private business's permits to tip.
Working for Yorwaste we see dozens of company's day in day out tipping their trade waste on permits.
Site staff at the skips are made to fill in forms and report the offending company's,however Cyc don't take any action against the traders in question.
Beckfield lane was also a hotspot for traders taking their waste there in private vehicles causing loss of revenue so no doubt this was a factor in the decision to close the site
