Lords should go

I READ with interest the letter from Anthony Cox in The Press of February 6.

As A P Cox says, even if the House of Lords does not agree with Government proposals, the Government can ignore them and enact legislation through the Commons; and rightly so too, they were elected, not appointed as were the Lords.

I would support his suggestion that the Lords be disbanded to save money, perhaps to be turned into a museum for antiquities and to earn money for the nation.

Perhaps the money saved could be put to improving and expanding our democracy, through quarterly referendums on Government legislation, British Law, the European Union and human rights laws, many of which often undermine the democratic rights and wishes of the people and allow terrorists to remain in our country.
