Badger Hill baiting

NOT only is Badger Hill becoming a car park for the university, it is also serving its purpose as a learner-driver training area, with many driving schools plying their trade many times daily. It is not uncommon to see half a dozen at a time on this smallish estate.

As our student fraternity enjoy a 100 per cent discount on council tax bills, I think the council should give serious consideration to offering permanent residents a 50 per cent rebate for all the previous well documented problems of the area.

The introduction of yellow lines on the periphery of the estate has, as anyone with half a brain would have foreseen, driven the problem inwards, so well done councillors.

Live with it; Learner Drivers have to practice somewhere. They use many areas on that side of York - Heworth, Tang Hall, Stockton Lane etc etc, as well as other parts of the city and suburbs. Their presence, I agree, can be an inconvenience if they are doing a three point turn, parallel parking maneouvre etc, but as most of us are drivers, are at least, have passed a driving test; I'm sure you'll agree we all had to learn somewhere and at some time.

Not sure how or why the second paragraph "ranting" about students and Council Tax ties into the problem of Learner Drivers either ! Sorry ...

Just another moaning gas-bag whiner on the take.

There is an alternative solution to the student problem, you realize? If you'd given a little, and insisted upon sufficient realistic parking to be a condition of the planning permission for the expansion of campus, they'd have somewhere to park that's not outside your house. But no, it was all whingewhingewhinge student-hatred, as per usual. Well, what goes around, comes around!

i take it you drive mr bevan, and no doubt you had to learn to drive on someones roads, what a pointless letter. the driveing school has paid road tax, so they can use the roads in your area.

You bought a house in a suburban area near the university and not far from the driving test centre. Did it not occur to you that there might be students and ... shock horror ... learner drivers around?

That's like people who buy a house in the country next to a farm and then complain about being woken up by the cockerels crowing.

Let's face it, if the worst thing in your life that you have to moan about is learner drivers on your street then you're pretty **** lucky.

What on earth does students having a 100% discount on council tax have to do with anything about this issue?

Do you even understand why you pay council tax? Where in and amongst libraries, refuse collection, the parks and social care for elderly and vulnerable people amongst many other things, does your issue with students parking legally (due to them paying their road tax) in your estate arise?

Please think about what you're saying before firing off all guns blazing at students who actually aren't doing anything wrong.

Oh, and good luck getting that 50% rebate...

Badger Hill has always been used as such.

It seems as though some of the residents at Badger Hill always find something to complain about. You complain about student parking, learner drivers, and now you are complaining about students not paying council tax. Council tax has nothing to do with student parking, so how on earth that comment is related to such a matter is beyond me! My parents pay full council tax and are not asking for a tax rebate, even though they cannot park outside their house and struggle to get out of their drive due to people parking here when visting or working at York Hospital. I would like to know where you park when you visit different areas. Have you never parked outside someone else's house?

It is not our fault that the University has not provided enough parking spaces for students.

I would like to thank those residents of the area who have not kicked up a fuss when students have parked outside their house.

Agree with all the comments.
Hideously narrow minded, way off the mark, moaning curmudgeon.

What on earth has paying council tax got to do with where you park?
Tell you what... as students commit that most heinous and despicable of crimes, that of not heroically paying the honourable council tax, why don't we ban them from all swimming pools, make them take their own rubbish to the tip and rescue themselves from their own housefires?
Oh I know why because it's called "society".

Yes I remember learning to drive in the area myself 23 years ago as it was a favourite route of the driving test centre - nothing has changed here !
